Trump Blinked...a quick comment

As the stock market crashed yesterday and fearing an even greater crash of his own making and fearing increased prices at the grocery store of his own making, both for which he would be blamed, Trump blinked on his threatened tariffs on our allies and trading partners Canada and Mexico. Both President Sheinbaum and Prime Minister Trudeau played Trump. Trudeau trotted out an agreement he had already made with Biden to spend 1.3 billion on border security and the only thing he added for Trump was the creation of a so-called border "czar." President Sheinbaum already had 15,000 troops at the border and actually Biden in April 2021 negotiated the same "deal" of 10,000 Mexican troops to the border without threatening tariffs and without tanking the stock market at the beginning of his term. Sheinbaum got a promise from Trump to crack down on gun running into Mexico. Illegal immigration is at a 5-year low and has been dropping since December of 2023. Finally, virtually no fentanyl comes in from Canada. Note that of the 21,889 pounds of fentanyl seized at the US border in 2024, only 43 pounds came from Canada. The vast majority of fentanyl at our southern border with Mexico comes in via US citizens, not undocumented immigrants. Act bold, back down and claim victory for a false or imaginary win...Trump has done it his entire life. Just as an fyi, many economists, trade experts. and journalists have pointed this out that Trump blinked...I am not saying anything new...
